Our Square-Foot Garden

Since Jared and I have been married we've always had some kind of garden. The first year our garden was at my grandma's and was semi succesful. Last year I was excited to have our garden in the back yard but all I got planted was 4 tomato plants that my dad gave me and I planted them WAY too late. All I got was green tomatos. BUT this year will be different (we hope). We have a square-foot garden! Jared's mom and I took this class a few years ago during education week and it was really interesting and seems full-proof and easy. So are giving it a go and I'm very hopeful that we will have a susseful harvest.

First Jared built our garden boxes.
(As you can see Ethan was daddy's little helper.) Next Jared mixed the dirt. Then we filled the boxed and made our gride. Then we planted carrots, peppers, 3 kinds of tomatos, strawberries, cucumbers, straight neck squash, & spagehtti squash. We also planted 2 rows of corn and cantalope out side of our boxes. I know it's a lot of stuff but just imagine all of the yummy things we'll be eating.

Oh I read that book! Your garden boxes are darling, I'm so jealous! Honestly I can't wait to try that method. Keep posting as things pop up!!

That looks very nice & sounds interesting. What is in your dirt "mix"? I like that it all looks so well thought out.

OK. I want to know how you do that! That looks like something I could wrap my brain around. Granted I don't have a yard and won't until we move out of New York I suppose, but when I have a yard again I'm calling you for tips!

You will have to post updates of your harvest. I wish we had a yard to grow our own fruits and veggies. When we do I will have to come to you for tips on how to do it right.

We are SO SO SO jealous of your garden! WE love to garden too! Nathan took that square foot gardening class at education week, with his mom, before we were married. It sounds like a great idea to me! Nathan is so desperate for a garden he made his own tomoato plant that hangs upside down outside our living room window. They sell something on tv called the Topsie Turvy or something like that...nathan made his own out of a bucket. Can't wait to have a garden again! Yours sounds great...lots of yummy stuff!
